Dr. Liebman Delivers Presentation Titled “Addressing Educational Trauma & Re-Engaging Out-of-School Youth”
Sacramento, CA, January 14, 2016 – Dr. Howard Liebman, Co-Founder and Superintendent of Schools for Smart Horizons Career Online Education, the world’s first fully AdvancED/SACS/NCA accredited online school district, was a featured speaker at yesterday’s California Workforce Association 2016 Youth Conference in Sacramento.
Dr. Liebman delivered a presentation titled “Addressing Educational Trauma & Re-Engaging Out-of-School Youth.” The session focused on how to re-engage students who have experienced trauma in academic settings back into the educational system.
“I’m honored to have been asked to address California Workforce Association members about this important topic.” stated Dr. Liebman. “Many students respond to educational failure in the same way they respond to other traumatic events—they run and never look back. We developed Cengage Learning’s Career Online High School specifically for this group of individuals. With the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) presenting a renewed commitment to education and training, workforce boards across the country are now looking at ways to provide out-of-school youth with secondary educational opportunities.”
Dr. Liebman is known as one of the foremost authorities in the United States on the topic of educational trauma. He has been featured in publications such as the Huffington Post and has been a keynote speaker at various educational and technology conferences. In addition, Career Online High School was recently made available to all members of the National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB), which represents approximately 550 workforce development boards and their more than 12,000 members.
Dr. Liebman’s presentation took place on the second day of the three-day conference as part of a larger featured plenary titled “Pushing the Boundaries” in front of over 450 attendees. The California Workforce Association is the premier workforce development association in the state, with a focus on strengthening the local workforce system in part by developing career pathways through education.
