UPSKILL AMERICA STUDY HIGHLIGHTS CAREER ONLINE HIGH SCHOOL

McDonald’s and Walmart’s Use of Career Online High School Featured as an Example of How U.S.-Based Businesses can Effectively Upskill Frontline Workers

Pensacola, FL, February 9, 2016 Smart Horizons Career Online Education, the world’s first accredited online school district, announced today that Cengage Learning’s Career Online High School (COHS) was featured last week in a new UpSkill America study as an effective tool for employee education and upskilling programs.

The study, titled Developing America’s Frontline Workers, was developed in support of The White House’s Upskill initiative focused on “empowering Americans with the education and training they need to develop new skills and earn higher wages.” The study specifically highlights McDonald’s and Walmart’s use of effective employee education and upskilling programs such as COHS.

In the report, Rob Lauber, McDonald’s Chief Learning Officer, states, “We’ve learned to tap into the extraordinary potential of employees with innovative programs such as Career Online High School, and we actively encourage other organizations to join us in our upskilling efforts to their employees.”

For the study, the Institute for Corporate Productivity (i4cp), in collaboration with the Aspen Institute’s UpSkill America, surveyed 365 U.S.-based businesses to explore what they are doing to develop their frontline workers, as well as reveal the business impact of respective developmental initiatives or programs. Survey respondents included public, private, government, and nonprofit organizations.

“We are proud to be mentioned in the UpSkill America study as an effective employee education and upskill tool,” stated Smart Horizons Career Online Education Co-founder and Superintendent Dr. Howard Liebman. “This study validates our mission to provide employers with more highly skilled and educated employees and, most importantly, to help improve the lives and futures of millions of frontline American workers who do not currently have an accredited high school diploma.”
